Bhubaneswar was buzzing with excitement as the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited joined hands to organize a pre-event conference for Global Wind Day. The event, held on Wednesday, aimed to bring together industry leaders and experts to discuss the rapid development of renewable energy in India.

Although MNRE joint secretary Lalit Bohra was unable to attend the conference in person, his speech was passionately delivered by IREDA director BK Mohanty. In his speech, Bohra emphasized the tremendous progress made by the country in adopting renewable energy and shed light on the efforts taken by both state and central governments. According to the National Institute of Wind Energy, India has the potential to generate 1,164 GW of wind energy onshore at a height of 150 meters, with Odisha alone having a potential of 12 GW.

During his keynote address, IREDA CMD Pradip Kumar Das highlighted the state's significant potential for green energy and the numerous opportunities that lie within. He specifically mentioned the state's capability to lead in green hydrogen projects, stressing its critical role in promoting sustainable energy initiatives.

Das also shared some impressive statistics, stating that IREDA has disbursed loans worth Rs 1,25,917 crores towards renewable energy projects, with Rs 26,913 crores given to wind power projects across the country. Furthermore, IREDA has granted a loan of Rs 1,637 crores for renewable energy projects in Odisha. Das also shed light on Odisha's Renewable Energy Policy 2022, which aims to attract investments in clean energy and promote the manufacturing of renewable energy technologies. He highlighted the state's potential in emerging technologies such as green hydrogen, green ammonia, and floating solar, encouraging renewable energy developers to take advantage of the growing opportunities in Odisha and other states.

In conclusion, the conference was a successful effort in bringing together industry leaders and experts to discuss the progress and potential of renewable energy in India, particularly in Odisha. The speakers emphasized the need for sustainable energy development and encouraged all stakeholders to work towards harnessing renewable energy for the nation's overall growth and progress.
