Millionaire banker killed in drunken attack in London's West End.
Shocking footage has been released of the moment when Paul Mason, a 52-year-old international banker, was fatally attacked outside the Ivy Club in London's West End. On December 15 2020, after enjoying an evening with friends in Soho, west London, Mr Mason was set upon in the street.

The footage shows electrician Steven Allan, who was drunk and mistakenly believed Mr Mason had his friend’s phone, making a grab for Mr Mason's phone. Mr Mason then turns and walks the other way before Allan runs up behind him and punches him to the ground -

- and as Mr Mason tried to get up, he was punched to the ground again. Allan then delivered an upper-cut which 'poleaxed' Mr Mason and sent him flying to the pavement on his back. The incident lasted just 12 seconds.

Despite a group of off-duty critical care nurses rushing to his aid, Mr Mason suffered head injuries which he later died from in hospital six months later. As a result of the incident, Allan, 35, from Hook in Hampshire, has been jailed for three years and nine months for the killing.

Mr Mason was described as a 'remarkably kind, decent, gentle soul' who was successful in all aspects of his life, and had been made a freeman of the City of London for his charitable works. The positive change that has emerged from this terrible tragedy is that justice has been served and his family have been given closure.
