Hood Anchor Ye, the founder of a popular platform for reporting breaking news in Atlanta, recently had a phone conversation with the man who tragically passed away during a manhunt in Cobb County on April 21. This man, whom Ye referred to as Damian, was wanted by the police in Fulton County for a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 67-year-old woman just last month. In a video shared on his Instagram page, Ye recounted his conversation with Damian, who claimed to have been innocently sitting on his back porch, smoking, when the police arrived.
According to Damian, he never pointed a gun at the officers, but they still opened fire. The call ended abruptly with Damian screaming in pain as he was shot. The man's identity was later confirmed to be Damian Strozier by WSB-TV, and his family members have since reiterated his intentions to turn himself in peacefully.
However, the police have a different account of the events. They claim that Damian was armed and dangerous, which is why they had to resort to lethal force. Strozier managed to escape and is currently still at large.
WSB-TV also reported that the police had been searching for Strozier since March, when he allegedly hit an elderly woman while riding an electric scooter and then fled the scene. Unfortunately, the woman later passed away from her injuries in the hospital. Despite the claims made by Hood Anchor Ye and Strozier's family, the encounter with the Cobb County police quickly turned into a deadly shootout.
Many people have since criticized the officers for using excessive force, pointing out that the man seemed to pose no immediate threat while on the phone with Ye. One commenter even expressed confusion as to why the police would shoot someone who was on FaceTime at the time. Others have also warned Ye to be cautious in sharing this information, as it may potentially harm Strozier's family if they decide to take legal action against the police.
One Instagram user advised Ye to stay safe, reminding him that the police may not be as friendly if they feel he is shedding a negative light on them. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
