As per Assistant Commissioner of Police PK Rout, the couple got into an argument over a small matter in the afternoon, which quickly escalated into a violent altercation. In a fit of anger, Biswajit allegedly stabbed Bishnupriya multiple times with a kitchen knife, causing her to bleed profusely and pass away on the spot.

The situation took a turn for the worse when Biswajit, overwhelmed by guilt and fear, attempted to take his own life by slitting his own throat with the same knife. Fortunately, his neighbors, who had gathered at the scene, intervened and managed to overpower him before he could inflict any harm on himself. Biswajit was then rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The police were alerted, and upon arriving at the scene, they registered a case against Biswajit and sent Bishnupriya's body for a post-mortem examination. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the couple's family had informed the authorities that they were planning to get separated and file for a divorce.
