A man has recently been given a sentence for his involvement in a drug trafficking case in Western Australia. According to authorities, the man had imported a whopping 7 kilograms of methamphetamine into the state, cleverly disguised in a pair of leggings.
The Border Force officers, on October 26, 2021, intercepted a package that was being transported from Pakistan to Scarborough, Western Australia, via an air cargo container. Inside the package, they discovered a pair of leggings that had been soaked in liquid methamphetamine.
It was later revealed by the Australian Federal Police that the leggings had been "impregnated" with 6.8 kilograms of pure methamphetamine, which was extracted and tested for forensic purposes. The value of these drugs in the streets is estimated to be around $6 million.
To carry out their operation, the AFP officers replaced the drug-soaked leggings with other clothes and made sure that the package was successfully delivered to the intended address in Scarborough. Little did they know, a 25-year-old man was waiting outside the property, claiming to be collecting the package for a friend.
After picking up the package, the man sent a picture of it to his friend and then drove back home to Mundaring. Once there, he discreetly placed the package in his bedroom, carefully covering it with blankets. Shortly after, his friend arrived at the house.
Unbeknownst to the two men, the AFP officers had been closely monitoring their movements and were ready to strike. They executed a search warrant on the house, arresting both men. During the search, they found the package with the leggings, along with $12,000 in cash and phones containing incriminating texts about the package.
The 25-year-old was charged with possession of an illegally imported drug and dealing with the proceeds of a crime. He was sentenced to five years and two months in jail. His friend, who was 27 at the time, was also sentenced to five years in jail in December 2023.
