Mumbai was shaken recently when a 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stalking two college girls and molesting one of them. Pritesh Mansukhbhai Tailer, a resident of Chembur, was identified as the accused. The incident occurred on August 13 when a 17-year-old girl from Ulhasnagar, accompanied by her friend, was on her way for an exam at Jai Hind college in Churchgate.
Tailer boarded the train at Ghatkopar station at around 12.15 pm and sat facing the two girls. He proceeded to make obscene gestures and inappropriately touched one of the girls with his legs. The girls ignored him and got off the train at Dadar station, only for Tailer to start stalking them until they reached the college entrance.
To the girls' surprise, Tailer was still there when they exited the college after their exams at 5 pm. He continued to follow them all the way to the Churchgate station. This prompted the girls to muster their courage and file a complaint with the railway police. The case was then transferred to Kurla railway police as Tailer had boarded the train from Ghatkopar.
Tailer was then booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Kurla railway police station senior Inspector Valmik Shardul appealed to women to come forward and report such incidents without hesitation.
