Lorraine Kelly, the well-known ITV presenter, is showcasing her many talents once again as she teams up with the record-breaking 90s heartthrob, Marti Pellow. It's been 30 years since Pellow's iconic rendition of "Love Is All Around" and now they are collaborating on a new charity single. The song will feature a choir of women who discovered they had breast cancer after watching Lorraine's chat show.
At the age of 64, Lorraine plans to share the song with her newborn granddaughter, Billie, who was born in August. The song, originally by The Troggs in the 60s, became a hit when Wet Wet Wet covered it in 1994 and it was featured in the popular movie, Four Weddings and a Funeral. Lorraine shared, "30 years ago, Rosie was born, and I was listening to the song. Here we are 30 years later, and we will be playing our version of the song to Billie all the time. So hopefully she'll be singing it, it will be the first thing that she says, which would be really nice, but it sort of completes that circle. And the lyrics are so important – about love."
This isn't the first time Lorraine has shown off her singing skills. She was previously unmasked on The Masked Singer earlier this year. However, this song holds a special meaning to her as it is part of the Change And Check campaign, which she has been promoting on her ITV show for the past six years. Last year's single, "Golden," with Joss Stone and the Change And Check choir, reached number one on the UK singles downloads chart.
Lorraine expressed her excitement about recording the charity single, saying, "It was fantastic because we were in a proper, real, true recording studio." She also shared that the experience was "joyful" and "very special" as they were all united in the cause, along with Marti. The former lead vocalist of Wet Wet Wet, now 59, also commented on the recording experience at Rak Studios, saying, "It really is up there with Abbey Road and for us to go there to Rak Studios and capture that moment, it was a joy."
The Change+Check choir, along with Lorraine and Marti, recorded the song in the studio on Monday. Prior to the recording, Marti spoke to Lorraine about the song, saying, "Incredible times and I look back now with such fond memories, it's been a pivotal time in my career and to rediscover it again with all these beautiful ladies involved in it, and the charity, is just extra special."
Lorraine also shared that over 100 women and one man have reached out to her show to say that they received their breast cancer diagnosis because of the Change And Check campaign. The charity single, "Love Is All Around," is now available for download and viewers can catch Lorraine and the Change+Check campaign on weekdays at 9am on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player.
