La Fête Wine Co., a Black-owned business, is on track to become the top wine company in the U.S. due to its quality and affordability.
As a toast to the new autumn season, BLACK ENTERPRISE had the pleasure of sitting down with Donae Burston, the founder and CEO of La Fête Wine Co. Burston shared an inspiring story of his journey to becoming the world's No.1 rosé wine brand, as well as invaluable business knowledge.

Since its inception in 2021, La Fête has made a name for itself as a disruptive force in the alcohol industry. Burston's extensive experience in the world of luxury wine comes from fifteen years of working with iconic brands. After one conversation, it was clear that he is committed to bridging the gap between Black buyers, winemakers, decision makers, and restaurateurs.

Burston told BE that it wasn't easy to get started without a celebrity face for the brand. But he persevered, and now other brands are beginning to catch on to La Fête's messaging. He advised aspiring entrepreneurs to immerse themselves in every aspect of the business, despite the challenges they may face in terms of inclusion.

It was an absolute pleasure to try La Fête's offerings. We sampled the rosé, which was perfectly sweet and refreshing - like a sunset on the beach. The La Fête Blanc was vibrant and fruity - it was like being transported to a honeymoon island! Burston said that La Fête is all about approachable luxury, and can be enjoyed however you like.

As a 2023 Breakthru Tastemaker, Burston is leading a legacy for La Fête and creating an ecosystem for Black and Brown wine founders. He believes that the key to success is knowing when to let go and bring in the right talent. Burston's philanthropy also deserves recognition - he has generously donated to The Roots Fund, and is sponsoring their HBCU Wine Tour in partnership with Michael Lavelle Wines.

At the end of the day, La Fête's mission is to be a part of the Black community. Burston said, "It's about brand discovery in other places and bringing a piece of home with you." We can't help but raise our glasses and say, "Cheers to that!"
