Kelvin Fletcher and his family have embarked on a new chapter in their lives and moved to the Peak District to become farmers. The former Emmerdale star, best known for his role as Andy Sugden in the ITV soap, bought the 120-acre farm with his wife Liz back in 2020.

Kelvin and Liz are now parents to Marnie, 6, Milo, 4, and their twin boys, Maximus and Mateusz, 1. The busy couple also look after sheep, chickens, pigs, horses, a cat and a dog, making for a unique lifestyle.

Originally, the family had planned to move to the USA shortly after Kelvin won Strictly Come Dancing in 2019, however, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, these plans were put on hold. In a new interview, Kelvin and Liz detailed the moment Kelvin spotted the farm on Rightmove and they bravely decided to take the plunge.

Liz said: "It was Kelvin’s idea. We had two children, no real responsibilities, they weren’t at school, we had no jobs… then all visas got stopped, but we were in the mindset for change. Kelvin saw this farm on Rightmove and said, 'Liz, what about buying this?'"

The couple soon found themselves in a new world, becoming farmers by accident. Kelvin said: "We didn’t do it because we wanted to be farmers. We wanted something different. We looked at all sorts of places but the thought of this quiet, idyllic life got us. Then, lo and behold, it’s not as quiet as you thought. There are sheep, so you think, 'I’ll get some more sheep'. Then it snowballs!"

In 2022, Kelvin and Liz welcomed a BBC film crew into their farm, with Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure looking at how the family adapted to making farming their new livelihood. The family will soon swap BBC for ITV, with Fletcher’s Family Farm set to air over the autumn.

When asked if he would ever return to Emmerdale, Kelvin said: "Never say never! It’s an incredible show, it’s got an unbelievable fanbase, since I left it’s gone from strength to strength… maybe that’s a sign I should stay away! I’ve just finished a drama, I left to go and explore other things artistically and not only that, have a bit of adventure! I watch the show as a fan now and I’m lucky in that sense."
