Kanchanjunga Express accident claims 10 lives.
In the bustling city of Kolkata, officials have confirmed that the tragic train collision between the Kanchanjunga Express and a goods train in West Bengal's Darjeeling district has resulted in a total of 10 deaths. As the news spread, the train has made its way back to Sealdah, where it had originally departed from.

The state administration shared that one of the injured passengers from the Kanchanjunga Express, who was being treated at the North Bengal Medical College & Hospital in Siliguri, passed away on Tuesday morning. This added to the nine bodies that were previously discovered on Monday, which included the goods train's loco-pilot, the Kanchanjunga Express' guard, and seven passengers from the affected compartments.

It has been revealed that out of the 10 deceased, seven have been identified. These include Asish De, the guard of Kanchanjunga Express, and Anil Kumar, the loco-pilot of the goods train. The other five identified individuals are Subhajit Mali, Celeb Subba, Beauty Begum, Shankar Mohan Das, and Vijay Kumar Raj. It has been confirmed that Subba was a sub-inspector with the West Bengal Police. The identities of the remaining three deceased are still being determined.

Railway officials have shared that the casualties could have been much worse if not for one crucial factor. The rear part of Kanchanjunga Express was made up of a parcel coach and the guard's coach, which suffered less impact compared to the passenger compartments further ahead.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the mishap-stricken Kanchanjunga Express finally arrived at Sealdah station, carrying the passengers from the unaffected compartments. As they stepped off the train, they were greeted by the state's municipal affairs & urban development minister and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, state transport minister Snehasis Chakraborty, the divisional general manager of Sealdah, and other senior railway officials. The passengers were provided with food and water at the station, easing their discomfort and trauma from the unfortunate event.
