A New Jersey judge is facing an investigation for a series of TikTok videos he posted. Judge Gary N. Wilcox allegedly used an alias to post the videos between April 2021 and March 2023.
The complaint filed to the state's Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct accuses Wilcox of lip-syncing to popular songs with "profanity, graphic sexual references to female and male body parts, and/or racist terms". In one video, he can be seen rapping while in his chambers. Other videos show Wilcox walking through the courthouse while wearing a Beavis and Butthead T-shirt and partially dressed while lying in bed.
Wilcox is a Harvard Law School graduate and has been practicing law in New Jersey since 1989. He has since hired an attorney to respond to the complaint. Robert B. Hille, Wilcox's lawyer, said, “I don’t think that at the end of the day anybody is going to believe there was any desire to do any harm here. Hindsight is 20-20.”
The judge's TikTok account has since been removed, as he had reached 100 followers. Judge Wilcox's investigation is still ongoing.
