Rosanna Forbes is a passionate wildlife photographer, who has traveled far and wide in Scotland to capture its enchanting creatures. She discovered her love for photography around 12 years ago, when she noticed the abundant wildlife in her home in Perthshire. As she spent more time observing and photographing the birds and animals around her, her fascination grew. With the onset of the Covid pandemic, Rosanna found herself with even more time to explore her local area and capture its wonders through her camera lens.

Living in the beautiful Glenalmond, Rosanna was inspired by the diverse range of wildlife that surrounded her. Her favorite subjects to photograph are hares and owls, and she enjoys following their journey through the changing seasons. From their playful boxing matches to the serene sight of leverets hidden in the grass, Rosanna is captivated by these resilient creatures and their ability to thrive in all weather conditions.

In Glenalmond, Rosanna was lucky enough to encounter Tawny Owls, barn owls, and long-eared owls. She had the opportunity to photograph both owlets and adults, and even had a barn owl box on the side of her house, where a pair of owls successfully raised four chicks. Rosanna recalls the magical experience of watching the barn owlets hunt on their own for the first time, right outside her doorstep. The diversity of wildlife that was just a few feet away from her home was a constant source of inspiration for Rosanna.

Despite not considering herself a particularly patient person, Rosanna has learned to be attuned to the behaviors and habitats of various birds and animals. She has become skilled at spotting movements and recognizing different noises and calls. Rosanna is willing to wait for hours if she knows there is a chance of capturing a special moment with her camera. She even carries peanuts in her pocket as a way to tempt birds, squirrels, and mice into view.

As a wildlife photographer, Rosanna is well aware that there are no guarantees when it comes to capturing the perfect shot. The creatures she seeks to photograph may not even make an appearance, let alone stay still long enough for her to snap a picture. But this uncertainty is part of what makes her job so rewarding. Rosanna is no stranger to challenging situations, and she has found herself scrambling down banks and up hills in all kinds of weather, just for the chance to see and photograph a special creature. And for Rosanna, it is always worth the effort.

Recently, Rosanna has moved to Edinburgh and is now discovering all the city has to offer in terms of wildlife. She has already encountered foxes, otters, kingfishers, and sparrowhawks, just to name a few. It is a whole new chapter for Rosanna, and she is excited to see what other captivating creatures she will encounter in the city.
