Johnny Depp is celebrating a major milestone in his career! The 60-year-old actor has just wrapped production on his upcoming biopic about artist Amedeo Modigliani.
Depp took to Instagram to share the exciting news with his fans. He posted a picture from the set and wrote: “To my dear Modi film family, Köszönöm for all your exceptional efforts without which this film could not have been made. Please accept my eternal admiration, appreciation, respect and love, JD. X. [Budapest, 2023].”
The movie, based on a play by Dennis McIntyre, will explore the life of Modigliani during a time of great hardship in 1916. Depp is directing the film as well as co-producing it for IN.2, alongside Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Depp said: “It was a life of great hardship, but eventual triumph – a universally human story all viewers can identify with.” Navidi echoed his sentiments, adding: “This is a slice of Modi’s life and not a bio. It’s been a dream of mine to work with Johnny again – he’s a true artist with an amazing vision to bring this great story to the screen.”
This movie marks Depp’s second time directing, with his first one being the 1997 movie The Brave. He co-wrote and starred in this movie as well.
Apart from this biopic, Depp is also set to appear in the movie Jeanne du Barry, where he will be playing the role of King Louis XV.
We can’t wait to see the result of Depp’s hard work on the Modi biopic! Let’s hope that the Sag-Aftra strikes ending this week will help pave the way for a successful premiere.
