Is the PlayStation 5 worth the price?
Is the Switch 2 really worth it at any cost? The Monday letters page seems to think so, as they express their surprise at the lack of different colors for the console. One reader even praises Insomniac Games for their speedy development process. But the real question is, are these games really worth every penny?

As we dive into this week's Games Inbox, we are met with a collection of our readers' letters, comments, and opinions. To join in on the discussions, simply email us at the given address. Now, let's get back to the topic at hand.

I recently noticed that the PlayStation 5 has had yet another temporary price cut, and I have to say, £330 for the console is an incredible deal. It's even cheaper than the Switch 2, and taking inflation into account, I believe it may be the most affordable PlayStation console yet. Despite the many mistakes made by Sony this generation, I don't think we should overlook the fantastic games that have been released in recent months. Sure, there have been some low points, but let's not dwell on the negative. After all, companies have always been and will always be flawed.

Speaking of games, I am currently hooked on Silent Hill f and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. These two titles are nothing short of amazing, and I would much rather play them on a reasonably-priced console than deal with the hassle of running them on a PC. So, for those who are still on the fence about getting a PlayStation 5, my advice would be to ignore all the negativity and take advantage of this amazing deal.

On a different note, I can understand where the Reader's Feature is coming from when it comes to the Switch 2's hardware issues. I agree that having more options available at launch, or at least by Christmas, would have been a good move. It's not surprising though, as this isn't something Nintendo typically does. However, I am quite surprised that they still haven't released any different colors for the console or the Joy-Con.

I mean, unless you purchase third-party ones, which I don't recommend, every Switch 2 looks exactly the same. This is not something we're used to seeing from Nintendo. To me, it's a clear sign that the Switch 2 was rushed. Why and how, I have no idea, and I doubt we'll ever find out. But at this point, I need some convincing to believe otherwise.

As we continue to learn more about the Switch 2's surprisingly powerful capabilities, I can't help but think that Nintendo has done a poor job of advertising this fact. There has been no mention of it from them, whether in a game or tech demo. Even a game like Donkey Kong Bananza, which is technically impressive, doesn't give off that impression at first glance. It's something you have to think about or have explained to you. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if Nintendo doesn't have anything to showcase themselves, they should make an effort to highlight third-party games.

But I haven't seen any ads for games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Star Wars Outlaws. I'm not even sure if they were featured in any Nintendo Directs. I also haven't come across any footage for games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake or Resident Evil Requiem, or even Elden Ring, which I'm now unsure if it's going to be good or not.

If Nintendo continues to leave publishers to fend for themselves like this, they shouldn't be surprised if they eventually get fed up and stop supporting the console altogether.

Moving on to a different topic, I've noticed a lot of fans getting worked up over whether or not Leon will be in Resident Evil Requiem. Personally, I hope he isn't. Or at least, only as a Chris-in-Resident-Evil-7-style cameo. I believe that Capcom's best move would be to introduce new characters. When was the last time they introduced a new character that everyone loved? It was probably Leon, way back on the PS1.

Ethan wasn't really a character, and Rose was pretty uninteresting, so we haven't really had any new additions in the modern era. I liked Sheva, but for some reason, it seems like Capcom has no plans of bringing her back. I'd be impressed if they made the effort to introduce a new character with an actual personality. Most of the original crew are beloved because of their cheesy dialogue. But can they introduce someone who doesn't have that going for them?

On a completely different note, I have been playing The House of the Dead 2 for the hundredth time, and I absolutely love it. I'm wondering if a remake is in the works? I play the original on the Wii U with the Wii's backwards compatibility and the plastic gun controller, so it feels just like the Dreamcast.

To those who have been eagerly waiting for Ghost of Yōtei, I have some good news. The review is finally out, and it's a very fair score. Personally, I predicted it would score higher than the first game, and my retracted score was 87. So, I'm hoping to have just as much fun with this one. It's funny though, how Ghost has succeeded as an exclusive, while a game like Lost Soul Aside has failed in every aspect. It's another Sony title with questionable hype, yet it's ultimately a failure.

Speaking of prices, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that the PlayStation 5 had yet another temporary price cut. At just £330, that console is a steal! It's even cheaper than the Switch 2 and, taking inflation into account, it may be the most affordable PlayStation console to date.

I know there's been a lot of criticism towards Sony and this generation of consoles in general, but let's not forget the amazing games that have come out recently. I've been playing Silent Hill f and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and they're both incredible. Plus, I'd much rather play on a reasonably-priced console than struggle with the hassles of PC gaming.

So if you haven't gotten your hands on a PlayStation 5 yet, don't let the negative buzz discourage you. This is a fantastic deal that shouldn't be missed.

It would have been a smart move for Nintendo to have more options available at launch, or at least by Christmas. I'm not surprised, as this isn't typical of Nintendo, but I am disappointed that there are still no different colored consoles or Joy-Con available.

It's strange that every Switch 2 looks exactly the same, unless you buy third party accessories. This is definitely not what we're used to seeing from Nintendo. To me, it's just another indication that the Switch 2 was rushed. I have no idea why or how, and I doubt we'll ever find out the truth. But at this point, I need some convincing to believe otherwise.

It's becoming increasingly clear that the Switch 2 is more powerful than we initially thought. However, Nintendo hasn't done a great job of showcasing this fact. We haven't seen any games or tech demos that really show off its capabilities. Sure, Donkey Kong Bananza is technically challenging, but you wouldn't know it just by looking at it. Nintendo should have made an effort to highlight third party games that take advantage of the Switch 2's power.

But I've never seen any ads for Cyberpunk 2077 or Star Wars Outlaws. Were they even featured in any Nintendo Directs? I also haven't seen any footage for Final Fantasy 7 Remake or Resident Evil Requiem, and I'm confused about whether Elden Ring is worth playing or not. If Nintendo continues to leave third party publishers to fend for themselves, it's no wonder they're starting to lose interest in supporting the console.

Now onto Resident Evil Requiem, there's been a lot of speculation about whether Leon will make an appearance or not. Personally, I hope he doesn't. Or at least, I hope he only has a small cameo like Chris in Resident Evil 7. It's about time Capcom introduced some new characters. The last time they did that and everyone loved them was on the original PlayStation with Leon. Ethan wasn't even a fully developed character, and Rose was pretty bland. We need someone new with a real personality. Most of the original characters are beloved because of their cheesy dialogue. Can Capcom create a new character without relying on that trope?

I'm currently playing through The House of the Dead 2 for the hundredth time, and I still love it. I was hoping for a remake, but it seems like that's not happening. I still have my Wii U with the Wii backwards compatibility and plastic gun controller, so it's just like playing on the Dreamcast.

I've pre-ordered Ghost of Yōtei and read GameCentral's review. It seems like a fair score, and it's actually higher than the first game. I predicted it would score 87, so I'm hoping to have just as much fun with it. It's interesting to note that while Ghost of Yōtei has been a successful exclusive, Lost Soul Aside has been a failure in every aspect. It's another Sony title that had a lot of hype but didn't deliver.
