December 16th 2024.
Did you catch the latest trailer for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet? Some people seem to be all in, but I have to admit, I wasn't that impressed. Sure, the graphics look amazing, but there's just something about it that feels a bit...arrogant. Maybe it's because it's a Naughty Dog game, and they tend to have a bit of a holier-than-thou attitude. But I'm not convinced that this game will live up to the hype.
One thing that bothered me was the main character. She didn't really do or say anything that made me like her, and even after watching the whole trailer, I still don't have a clear idea of what the story or gameplay will be like. It seems like it might be a third-person fighter, but considering how simplistic the combat is in other Naughty Dog games, I'm not sure they have what it takes to compete with the likes of Devil May Cry.
And don't even get me started on the design of the protagonist and her robot sidekick. It all feels a bit cobbled together from ideas taken from other games. I expected more from Naughty Dog. Of course, I'm not completely writing it off, but I'm not exactly jumping for joy either. I hope it surprises me, but I'm not holding my breath.
Moving on, I was thrilled to see more about Elden Ring: Nightreign. But I can't help but feel like it was originally meant to be DLC and then they decided to expand it into a full game. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does make me wonder if it's just a side project for FromSoftware. I wouldn't be surprised if Hidetaka Miyazaki isn't even directing it.
But what I'm really interested in is finding out what Miyazaki's next big project will be. With the rumors of Sony buying out From's parent company, I can't help but wonder how that will affect their future games. I hope we get some answers soon.
Speaking of waiting for games, it's crazy to think that The Witcher 4 won't be out until at least 2028. And who knows, it could be even longer. It seems like it's becoming more common for developers to not stick with a game for its entire development cycle. In fact, five years is longer than most people stay at a job these days. And with all the layoffs in the industry, it's no surprise that people want to stay put. But it does make me wonder how difficult it must be to coordinate everything and keep a team together for such a long period of time. I just hope the game turns out well, especially since I'm all for Ciri being the main character and more Witcher content in general.
Lastly, I just want to wish everyone at GC a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Keep up the great work! And on a side note, I have a small request for some Inbox magic. As a Nintendo Switch owner, I have been enjoying Yakuza on the Switch and it got me thinking about the Shenmue series. How about a Shenmue collection for the Switch? It would be a Christmas miracle!
Moving on to a different topic, I've been playing through the Dark Souls games again and getting my butt kicked in the Pained World of Ariandel. It's funny, those creatures remind me of the villain from Through The Dragon's Eye. But I digress. I noticed that GC occasionally reviews and recommends board games, and I was wondering if anyone has played the Dark Souls board game? I have some time off over Christmas and I was thinking of trying something new. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Did you guys get a chance to check out Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet? I wasn't too impressed, to be honest. Despite the fancy graphics, there was something about it that just didn't quite click for me. Maybe it was the cringey subtitle or the smug vibe I got from the developers at Naughty Dog. Don't get me wrong, I know they're talented, but this game didn't seem to live up to their usual standards.
The main character didn't really do or say anything that made me like her, and even after watching the trailer a few times, I still couldn't get a good feel for the story or the gameplay. It looks like it might be a third person fighter, but I'm not sure I have much faith in Naughty Dog's ability to pull off a complex combat system like Devil May Cry.
Plus, I wasn't a fan of the design choices for the protagonist or the robot she was with. It all felt a bit cobbled together from other games, and I expected more from such a big studio. Of course, I'm not completely writing it off, but I'm not jumping out of my seat with excitement either. I hope it turns out to be a good game, but I'm not holding my breath.
Moving on to some more exciting news, I'm thrilled to hear about more details on Elden Ring! Although, I can't help but wonder if Nightreign was originally meant to be DLC and they decided to expand it. FromSoftware has a history of adding new multiplayer options after launch and turning games into roguelikes, so it wouldn't be surprising if this was a side project rather than their main focus at the moment.
I'm really curious to find out what Hidetaka Miyazaki is working on next. With the potential Sony buyout of From's parent company, it's hard to say if we'll get any information soon. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some juicy details to be spilled soon.
Switching gears, I can't believe we have to wait until at least 2028 for The Witcher 4! And that's assuming it doesn't get delayed even further. It's becoming more and more common for developers to not stick with a project for the entire duration of its development. I mean, five years is longer than most people stay at a job nowadays. And with all the layoffs in the industry, it's understandable that developers would want to stay put. But it's also a logistical nightmare to coordinate such a long-term project.
But I'm still holding out hope for a good game, especially if Ciri ends up being the main character. And while we're on the topic of wishes, I'd love to see a Shenmue collection on the Switch! With the recent release of Yakuza on the Switch, it's clear that it's possible. So, fingers crossed for some Inbox magic this Christmas.
Speaking of Christmas, I want to take a moment to wish everyone at GC a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Keep up the great work! And on that note, I was wondering if anyone has tried the Dark Souls board game? I'm a big fan of the video games and I have some time off over the holidays, so I thought I might give it a try. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
