Amidst the chaos and confusion caused by the mass flight cancellations by IndiGo, the Railway Ministry has come to the rescue by announcing 84 special trains across all zones for Saturday. This move was made after a thorough analysis of train traffic in major cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Patna, and Howrah. The trains, totaling to 104 trips, were arranged in record time in order to assist those who were facing travel disruptions.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information & Publicity at Railway Board, stated that the number of special trains and trips may increase depending on the traffic situation. All zones have been instructed to utilize all available resources, including rolling stock and manpower, to ensure the safe operation of these trains for the convenience of the thousands of passengers who are stranded due to flight cancellations.
Efforts are being made to make people aware of these special trains, with some divisions even disseminating information at nearby airports to assist stranded passengers. South Eastern Railway has taken the initiative to inform the Airport Authority to display information about the newly introduced special train services.
Meanwhile, Western Railway has announced the operation of seven special trains on a special fare between Mumbai Central-New Delhi, Mumbai Central-Bhiwani, Mumbai Central-Shakur Basti, Bandra Terminus-Durgapura, Valsad-Bilaspur, Sabarmati-Delhi, and Sabarmati-Delhi Sarai Rohilla stations. Similarly, South Central Railway has also joined in by announcing the operation of four special trains to manage the surge in passengers caused by the IndiGo flight cancellations.
Central Railway and Northern Railway have also stepped up by planning 14 and 10 special trains respectively, with the possibility of these numbers increasing further to meet any rising requirements. Other zones have also issued notifications regarding their own special trains and schedules.
The flight disruptions by IndiGo have caused significant hardships to thousands of passengers for the past five days, with numerous cancellations and delays. In some cases, baggage has been misplaced, adding to the frustration of the affected travelers. In such trying times, the timely and efficient response by the Railway Ministry has proved to be a ray of hope for those affected.
