I was pondering how successful Hogwarts Legacy has been and the Warner Bros. executives implying there will be a sequel, but now I'm questioning if that is what they really meant. There will likely be DLC and, it is assumed, spin-offs, but think of how much time a sequel would take to make. It couldn't come out until at least 2028 and if you take into consideration it would need to be next gen only and require more intricate assets it could easily not be until 2030, which appears to be an incredibly far away point in the future.

This is the same for a lot of sequels and why the Norse God Of War games aren't a trilogy: because they would all be collecting their pensions by the time they finished it and had a chance to do anything different.

I'm wondering if live service games are going to end up being the future of gaming, not just because companies like microtransactions but because it's the only plausible way to keep new content coming out. The days of yearly sequels are gone and before too long I believe they'll be at least a decade apart. Thus maybe there will not be a Hogwarts Legacy 2? Just heaps of DLC and a next next gen update when necessary.
