Illegal timber trafficking: Five arrested

Madikeri; The District Crime Investigation branch (DCIB) arrested five persons and recovered Lakhs of Rupees timber obtained by illegally transporting timber to Kerala. It is said that DCIB sleuths raided a coffee estate in Bettegeri village near here and recovered 22 Halasu and other logs.  It is said that the arrested, Ashraf, Riyaz, Abdul Rahim of Palur, Harris of Puttur and A Riyas were trying to transport the timber logs in a lorry without permit.

During patrol DCIB sleuths found a lorry transporting logs in wee hours of Saturday. Officials chased the lorry and also recovered a Maruti Swift and Maruti Zen car which were escorting the lorry. It is said that the value of the total recovered goods is Rs 15 lakhs.  A case has been registered under the KFD act in Madikeri rural police station. The Police are investigating.
