July 10th 2024.
I recently had the opportunity to try out Apple's highly anticipated new product, the Vision Pro headset. This amazing device is set to launch in the UK on July 12th, and I was fortunate enough to get my hands on it before then. And let me tell you, it was an experience like no other.
In just half an hour, I was able to cross off some of the most incredible items on my bucket list. I visited the moon, climbed to the top of Mount Hood volcano, and even went on a safari where I had a close encounter with an elephant. These are experiences that most people can only dream of, but with the help of Apple's debut headset, I was able to breeze through them effortlessly.
Of course, I did look a bit silly wearing the headset and flailing my arms around, but it was all worth it for the truly immersive experience it provided. Even after my whirlwind adventure, it only took a minute with the stunning mindfulness app to ground me back to reality.
I've tried VR headsets before, but I always found myself clumsily bumping into furniture and losing my balance. They were interesting, but not something I felt I needed or wanted in my life. However, after trying out the Vision Pro, I started to question if that was still the case.
The possibilities with this new 'spatial computer' from Apple seem endless. While there may not be many apps available for it just yet, I can already imagine all the amazing things I could do with it. I could go for a virtual walk and see famous sights from around the world, or even try on clothes without the hassle of actually changing. I could even sing karaoke duets with my favorite artists, stargaze at distant planets and constellations, and watch live shows like I was sitting in the front row.
During the product demonstration, I couldn't help but feel emotionally moved by the 3D images, like a photo of a child blowing out birthday candles. It made me realize that I didn't have similar photos of my own son, and I felt a bit guilty for relying on just iPhone clips. And while the price of the Vision Pro may be a bit steep, it's worth every penny for the incredible experience it provides.
Controlling the headset with just my eyes and hand gestures was mind-blowing. I didn't have to move my head or point to anything, I could simply select what I wanted with my eyes and pinch my fingers together to make a selection. And with the option to adjust the level of immersion, I could tune out the outside world or still be aware of my surroundings.
Of course, like any new technology, there are some areas that could use improvement. But overall, the experience was futuristic and unlike anything I've ever tried before. I couldn't help but think of all the potential uses for this technology, from virtual lap dances to witnessing real-life events in high definition.
As I only had a limited time to test out the features, I was unable to fully explore all the possibilities. But for certain professions, like architecture and medical students, this technology could be a game-changer. And while I may not be able to justify buying one just for my own entertainment, I hope that enough people do so that Apple continues to invest in this incredible technology.
The only downsides I noticed were the weight of the headset and the slight fuzziness of the real world images. But these were minor compared to the overall experience. And if you want to see for yourself, you can book a demo at any Apple store starting this Friday. Trust me, it's an experience you won't want to miss.
