Coming up next, the beloved EastEnders star Danny Dyer has officially announced that his time in the world of soap operas has come to an end. This exciting news comes just before the release of his new comedy series, Mr Bigstuff.

Danny, who portrayed the iconic character Mick Carter on the popular BBC show, bid farewell to the role in 2022. In a Christmas Day episode filled with drama, Mick disappears at sea after bravely jumping in to save his wife Linda. But now, he is taking on a new role as Lee in the Sky Max comedy series, alongside the show's writer Ryan Sampson, who plays Glen.

Recently, Danny and Ryan sat down with The Agency to discuss their upcoming show and how everything fell into place for Danny to join the cast. It seems that Mick Carter won't be returning to EastEnders anytime soon, as Danny and Ryan are the stars of Mr Bigstuff.

Ryan revealed, "I wrote Lee for Danny, but things didn't go according to plan at first." He went on to explain, "I poured my heart and soul into it, writing furiously, but when I gave it to a producer, they told me, 'Yeah, it's good and all, but do you realize that Danny is tied to EastEnders for the foreseeable future? What have you done? You've wasted your time.' And I had no idea that had happened."

Ryan and his friends commiserated over the news and went out for a wild night, but little did they know that the universe had other plans. As Ryan shared, "On the morning after our night out, I stumbled past a newsstand and saw the headline on the front of the Daily Express: 'Dyer Quits 'Enders'. It was like a sign from God, speaking to me through a tabloid. I was quite drunk at the time."

Danny jokingly mentioned that this was the first time he had heard this story and quipped that it may have been the reason he left EastEnders. He added, "I didn't know about this, but I feel like Ryan may have had a Voodoo doll because one night, I just woke up and thought, 'I must leave EastEnders! It's been nine years now, I've done 1100 episodes. There's something out there calling me...'"

But on a more serious note, Danny went on to explain his decision to leave the soap after nine years. He shared, "I was coming to the end of my run, I had a wonderful time there, but I felt like I needed to go out and try new things, even if there were no guarantees. And then, this script landed in my lap, and it really confirmed to me why I had left."

Unfortunately for soap fans, Danny revealed that his time in serial dramas has come to an end, joking that even Coronation Street was off the table. "Ooh no, I don't fancy a stint in Corrie," he laughed.

To celebrate the launch of Mr Bigstuff, Ryan pulled a hilarious prank on Danny. He commissioned a massive rug that looked exactly like Danny and placed it in a pub in Essex. The rug, which took over 400 hours to make and measures 3m by 6m, was created by Jaymond Ahn and Jenny Kim using 36 colors of yarn.

Ryan joked, "I have created a TV show, Mr Bigstuff, for Sky, and it stars Mr Dyer himself and me as brothers. Now, I needed to do something truly momentous to commemorate this - something that would immortalize Daniel Dyer and elevate him to legendary status, as he truly deserves. And thus, inspiration struck me. I play a carpet salesman, so here he is immortalized in the biggest rug known to Essex. For Danny deserves a deep shag...pile!"

In Mr Bigstuff, Danny and Ryan play brothers Lee and Glen, respectively. Glen's mundane life is turned upside down when Lee suddenly shows up, and the two brothers must navigate through plenty of twists and turns. Ryan shared, "It's about these two brothers trying to be men in completely opposite ways. They both think they're doing it right - one is the nice guy, and the other is the maverick, aggressive type - but they're both repressed by their own choices. I'm fascinated to see what people think."

Danny added, "I was ready for new challenges. I think the beautiful thing about what we do as actors is that you never know what's around the corner. That's what keeps it exciting and terrifying at the same time. You can't plan it, and nothing is guaranteed in our industry, so you just have to hope for opportunities."
