I proposed to my bf using Google Maps & a running app.
Sarita Aujla, 29, was ready for the most important run of her life last weekend. She wanted to surprise her partner of almost two years, Jack Tench, with a proposal. But, Sarita wasn't just looking for any ordinary proposal. She wanted to make a grand gesture of love to show the world just how much she loved Jack.

Sarita was familiar with the idea that usually it is the men that are expected to propose and thought it was unfair that men don't get an engagement ring. With her extroverted personality, she wanted to do something big to show her love.

After thinking about it for a while, she came up with the idea of running a proposal on her running app, Strava. Sarita decided the route would be 6.26 km and lead to the fountain next to Greenwich University. She spent four hours looking at maps and drawing out the route on Google Maps. She even had to appoint helpers to do a practice run the week before using some cones to make sure there were no blocked off areas, fences or obstacles.

When the day finally arrived, Sarita was relieved to find out that it was a sunny and crisp winter's day. Everything seemed to be going well with the first two words of the message, but then disaster struck. The ice rink was set up in the exact place where Sarita was going to run the letter ‘Y’. She had to wrap the letter Y around the scaffolding of the ice rink and some children even tried to take the cones.

Despite a couple of hiccups, Sarita was pleased with the outcome. She completed the route in just under 40 minutes and then headed to the fountain next to the university to meet Jack for brunch. Jack was not aware of the importance of the situation and took his time to get there.

When he eventually arrived, Sarita told him to look at her latest run on Strava. Then, she got down on one knee and was about to launch into an emotion speech before Jack exclaimed, ‘Yes! Yes, I will marry you.’ She was so relieved and happy that her big idea had worked.

The couple spent the rest of the day celebrating and Jack said he was so impressed by the route planning that had gone into it. They plan to tie the knot in December 2024 in a winter wedding. Sarita said she is so excited for the wedding and that everything is already planned.
