Holly Willoughby skipped the Tric Awards to prevent competing with Jonny Irwin and having to see Eamonn Holmes.
Holly Willoughby surprisingly chose to skip the Tric Awards which was held on Tuesday. The 42-year-old This Morning host had spent the weekend with her husband Dan Baldwin at Glastonbury, and opted to not attend the prestigious ceremony.

With recent developments at the ITV programme, it's not difficult to imagine why Holly decided not to show up. Last year, This Morning earned the award for best daytime show at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards, however, the scandal erupted when Phillip Schofield had to resign after admitting to an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair.

It was reported that this could be one of the reasons why Holly chose not to attend the event. Celebrities such as Susanna Reid, Martin Lewis, Vanessa Feltz, Lorraine, and Dr Hilary Jones did appear at the awards, which made Holly's absence even more noticeable.

The scandal had caused a lot of tension in the air and it was likely that Holly would have to face Eamonn Holmes, who was very vocal about her and Schofield. An insider shared: ‘If you were Holly you wouldn’t have gone, would you? Not only would you have come face to face with Eamonn but you would have had to go through the humiliation of losing out to A Place in The Sun.’

Holly seemed to subtly hit back at Eamonn's claims during a recent This Morning episode. He had accused Holly and Schofield of being ‘drunk’ while presenting This Morning and had said that neither of them knew the names of people behind the scenes.

Holly had the perfect opportunity to prove Eamonn wrong as she pointed out one cameraman's name during a chaotic segment with Gino D'Acampo. Not only that, but This Morning also missed out on winning the daytime award, which went to Jonnie Irwin’s A Place In The Sun.

Jonnie Irwin, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year and was given months to live, made a rare public appearance at the event. He told The Mirror that he takes ‘every day as a gift and as it comes’. It was great to see him in good spirits, smiling with his co-stars and having a good time.

It's not clear why Holly chose to miss out on the award show, however, it's safe to say that it was a wise decision on her part.
