Hill Harper, an actor and author best known for his role in the CBS show The Good Doctor, is entering the political realm. The Iowa native recently announced that he is running for Michigan State Senate under the Democratic ticket via Twitter.
In the announcement, Harper stated that the people need a representative who will take on the special interests of the people, and expressed that the current system of politics in the nation is not getting things done. “We need representatives who’ll take on special interests, get money out of politics, and make our government work for all of us,” Harper wrote.

Harper is hoping to change the fact that only three Black men currently serve in the U.S. Senate. “There’s a high degree of frustration by a lot of Democrats ― not just African-American Democrats in Michigan ― that for the first time in 57 years, Michigan does not have a Black Democratic representative in Congress,” he explained.
The actor and author has been vocal on the practices of politicians and uplifting Black men with his advice book, Letters to a Young Brother. Now, Hill Harper is taking his activism even further. It remains to be seen if the Good Doctor star will be able to unseat U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, but his fans are certainly rooting for him all the way.
