The city has received an average of 100mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy showers in the city and suburbs, along with strong winds, over the next 24 hours.
This has forced the state government to issue an advisory asking people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. The IMD’s Mumbai centre has predicted an average rainfall of 95.39mm, 96.70mm and 110.45mm in the city, eastern suburbs and western suburbs, respectively.
Apart from Mumbai, the IMD has also issued a warning for extremely heavy rainfall in the Ghat areas of Pune district today. The Ghat areas have been warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the weekend, starting from Saturday and continuing through Sunday and Monday.
The monsoon season is intensifying with increased rain activity, and this could cause waterlogging, landslides, and flash floods in some vulnerable areas. People in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
