He went from a humiliated prisoner to a new life, showing how it is possible to move on.
Danny Barber, who stood by his ex-wife Kandice throughout her trial, opened up to MailOnline about the ordeal he and his family went through. He still isn't sure of her innocence.

"I'm a man. It's bad enough to be told your wife has slept with someone else but for it to be a child...It deflates you completely. You look at yourself and think 'What have I done wrong?' Maybe I didn't want to believe my wife could do that," he said.

Kandice Barber was found guilty in 2021 of grooming a minor and was sentenced to more than six years in prison. Reports have since emerged that she has been 'a massive flirt' and a 'hit with the lads' while on placement with a construction firm.

The prosecution accused her of taking a young boy into a field and kissing him on the neck, as well as sending him flirty messages via Snapchat, including a photo of herself on a bed surrounded by sex toys.

At sentencing, Recorder Bal Dhaliwal said: "The victim was a 15-year-old boy in his final year at school. You had control and authority over him. He felt drawn in by you due to the compliments, you caused him to engage in sex with you while he was a pupil in your care."

Mr Barber recalled taking Kandice's children to visit her in prison, saying: "When I took the kids to visit Kan in prison, she'd be smiling and bubbly and happy. Her hair was done. I'd sit there and feel 'This is wrong. You're smiling and happy in a place we shouldn't be coming to visit you.'"

He added that the relationship between the two of them changed from then on. "One evening she phoned me and wanted to be romantic. I didn't want to. She got all upset and it kind of festered from there. I began to see Kan differently. I started avoiding her," he said.

Now divorced from Kandice, Danny has since moved on with his new partner Charlotte Smith, who he is expecting a baby with in the autumn. When asked if he still believed his ex-wife's innocence, as he did during the trial, he replied: "Even if in 30 years time she were to find me, apologise and tell me the truth I'd want her to. It's the not knowing that's so hard. Although the fact I say I don't know if she's innocent probably says it all."
