If you're looking to make a statement with your eyewear this summer, you won't want to miss the collaboration between Black-owned brands Harlem Haberdashery and Vontélle Eyewear. After meeting at a Chase Entrepreneurship program, the brands realised their visions complemented each other perfectly.
The project was launched on June 22nd, 2023 - Juneteenth week - in their Harlem boutique. The partnership offers six new frames with vibrant colors designed to cater to people of melanin creation. The frames are named after historic elements of the beloved neighbourhood of Harlem, such as the 'Sugar Hill' red and 'Lenox Avenue' green.
Harlem Haberdashery's president and CEO, Sharene Woods, praised Vontélle's design. She said, "I loved everything about their design." Vontélle founders Nancey Flowers-Harris and Tracy Vontélle Green have admiration for Woods' and Haberdashery's keen eye for detail. Green said, "Harlem Haberdashery are already the gurus of what they do. Woods really has a strict understanding of details - when this came out, it was fate."
The eyewear has already caught the attention of some New York icons, such as rapper Fat Joe, who has been seen sporting the 'Lenox Avenue Pink' frames. This collaboration is part of JPMorgan Chase's efforts to promote Black-owned businesses. Joy Butts, JPMorgan Chase's vice president and senior business consultant, said, “Our minority entrepreneurship program was designed to help diverse entrepreneurs and business owners start, grow, and scale their businesses through individualized coaching and access to networking opportunities that foster win-win partnerships with like-minded businesses.”
