Halle Bailey is inspiring us all by showing us that there are angels out there. To demonstrate her commitment to the cause, she announced her Angel Scholarship, which seeks to help Black women students in the performing arts. On Oct. 2, she unveiled the inaugural cohort of four recipients, all passionate about their respective fields.
The range of talents was impressive, with the scholars pursuing careers in classical piano, theater, and more. In a video to her Instagram on Sept. 27, Bailey expressed her excitement at being able to support young women in achieving their creative dreams.
"I'm so excited to announce that I am launching the 'Angel Scholarship,' which will support amazing young Black women in the performing arts," said the 23-year-old. "Thank you for supporting 'Angel' and helping to make these incredible young ladies' dreams come true. Stay tuned."
She further shared how the chosen women “truly inspire” her. Bailey has been paving the way for Black women in the mainstream media, first as one half of the sister duo Chloe x Halle, and now as the star of the live-action The Little Mermaid. Her first solo song, “Angel,” is an ode to empower Black women to celebrate their beauty and strength.
On top of her success in music and film, Bailey is using her platform to be an “angel” back to young Black women. The Angel Scholarship is part of her mission to help the next generation of talent get the education they need to make their dreams come true.
