Grower-responsive -: coffee inventory planning

Madikeri April. 8:Kodagu District Coffee Growers Co-operative Society has launched a coffee inventory project in association with the Kodagu District Cooperative Central Bank to assist the growers of the district to sell their coffee. Addressing a press conference held in the city, Union President MB Devaiah said that the project would be launched at a meeting attended by the district caretaker ministers, legislators and the district officials. Scheduled to get a loan of Rs.1 crore. He also said that it was decided to put in the joint venture of the Central Bank and the Sanghas of the District Co-operative for the purpose of making the coffee warehouses transparent. Under the Haali Scheme, the association will get Rs. 1000 advance cash and coffee from a grower up to a maximum of Rs 2 lakh. Only a small amount of coffee will be stocked. Growers can sell this coffee to the association whenever needed and the money can be refunded. Also, if the coffee is processed within the association's processing plant, their coffee will be kept for three months without any rent. The governing body said it would set a minimum rental rate in the coming days if inventory is overdue.

The current association's refined coffee processing plant has been able to supply more than adequate raw ware, with warehouses being leased out, and the warehouse is in short supply. To solve this problem, the association has requested the warehouses of the Madikeri and Gonikoppa agro-product committees to be given free of charge. If it gets vibrant the association would take immediate action to store coffee said Devaiah.

Appeal to Chief Ministers: Coffee growers, like farmers who grow other crops in the state, are in dire straits and have sought the assistance of the state government, the State Govt lends an interest free loan of Rs.10 crores. District Representatives insisted on this. The association's vice president NK Ayyanna, director Napanda Ravi Kalpa and BC Kawerappa were also present.
