Tibina Louissant, a 53-year-old grandmother from Florida, was arrested last Friday after an investigation into the death of her 11-month-old grandson, Josiah Fenelus.
It is alleged that Louissant gave her grandson cyproheptadine, an antihistamine, which ultimately caused his death. On August 21, officers were called to the Oakland Park home where the baby was found unresponsive. He was rushed to the Broward Health Medical Center, but was pronounced dead at the scene. Baby bottles found in the grandmother’s home were tested, and toxicology tests returned positive for cyproheptadine. Louissant was issued an arrest warrant in August and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child. On October 14, she was released on bond after the Broward County Court set her bond at $50,000. If found guilty, she could face a minimum of 13 years in prison to a maximum life sentence.
