In an exciting move towards promoting sustainable transportation, the Odisha government has announced plans to set up electric vehicle charging stations at 100 locations in the first phase. This information was shared during a session at the Assembly on Thursday by Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena.
According to Jena, out of the 100 planned stations, 21 will be located in Bhubaneswar, while 38 will be set up in various regional transport offices. In addition, 23 charging stations will be established at truck terminals and 18 at other locations across the state. It's great to hear that work for setting up these stations has already begun.
In order to make this project a reality, the state government has selected a private firm through a tendering process to install the charging stations in the first phase. This decision was made in response to a query raised by BJP legislator Tankadhar Tripathy. Currently, there are 1,57,081 electric vehicles being used in Odisha, out of which 1,32,692 are battery-operated, 23,563 are pure EVs, and 826 are strong Hybrid EVs.
It's worth mentioning that the state government has also been providing subsidies to electric vehicle owners as per the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy of 2021.
