Mrs Brown’s Boys is finally coming back! After a decade, the beloved BBC comedy will be returning with four brand new episodes dropping on September 8, 2020. The series, created by Brendan O’Carroll who stars as Agnes Brown, has been subject to only occasional Christmas and New Year’s Day specials since 2013, as well as a rogue summer and Halloween episode.
The cast and crew are beyond excited to be bringing the show back to life and Brendan himself said: “This mini-series was actually planned for 2021. Having been thwarted twice, firstly by Covid-19 and then by a post-Covid shortage of studios, it’s fantastic to, at last, have the chance to make it happen. Fasten your seatbelts and hold on to your hats!”
The comedic series has attracted large audiences since its initial airing in 2011, with the 2018 Christmas special watched by 6.8 million viewers, making it one of the top three most-watched programmes on Christmas Day in the five years before.
The most recent episode, titled Mammy’s Hair Loom, however, was not as well received. Despite the negative reviews, there are still some fans of the show who are excited for the return of the Brown family.
