Today, more than 500 people gathered in Perth in a celebration of the life of the late Johnny Ruffo. Ruffo, who was best known for his role as Chris Harrington in Home and Away between 2013 and 2016, had passed away at the age of 35 after his battle with brain cancer.
The memorial was attended by his family, partner Tahnee Sims, and a variety of celebrities, including Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian and his former Home and Away co-stars, such as Lynne McGranger who gave the eulogy. McGranger remembered Ruffo for his ‘sense of fun coupled with humility’.
Ruffo had first become a household name when he appeared on The X Factor in 2011, coming in third place. Partner Tahnee also spoke at the service, and revealed that Ruffo’s humour had stayed with him to the very end and that his ‘big cheeky grin had brightened even the darkest of days’. Tahnee and Ruffo had joked that they should have met later in life, however, four years into their romance, they received the heartbreaking news that Ruffo had been diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer.
Tahnee expressed her gratitude for the time she had with Ruffo, saying ‘I know that not everyone gets to experience that kind of love, which is why I will be forever grateful.’ She also spoke of Ruffo’s courage and gratitude following the devastating news, and of how he had continued to bring joy, love and laughter into their lives every day.
In 2012, Ruffo had won Dancing with the Stars, and also later went on to appear on six episodes of Neighbours in 2020. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017, and last year, he confirmed that the diagnosis was terminal.
Today, family, friends, and fans alike are mourning the loss of an inspirational spirit, and remembering the joy and laughter he brought to their lives.
