In Sambalpur, a young girl has gone missing after she reportedly jumped off a bridge into the Mahanadi river on Saturday. The incident took place at the second bridge in Chaunrpur, under Ward No-1. The girl, who was a student in Class IX at a local high school, lived in the Mandalia area under Khetrajpur police limits.
On Saturday morning, she left her home on her bicycle, presumably to attend school. However, instead of heading towards her school, she made her way to the river bridge in Chaunrpur and jumped off. According to an eyewitness, she left her bicycle on the bridge and jumped into the river before anyone could understand her intentions. Upon receiving the news, three teams of Fire brigade personnel were immediately dispatched to the area to begin a search operation in Sambalpur, Burla, and Maneswar.
Unfortunately, the search had to be called off at 6pm due to the rising water levels in the river caused by the opening of eight sluice gates at the Hirakud dam. Sudam Kisku, a member of the Fire brigade, stated that the search will resume at 6am on Sunday. In the meantime, Sambalpur Sadar SDPO Tophan Bag confirmed that they are working tirelessly to find the missing girl. The police have also started an investigation to determine the reason behind her drastic decision. The girl's parents are also being questioned in connection to the incident.
Local residents shared that this is not the first time a tragedy has occurred in their community. A year ago, the girl's elder sister was also swept away in the Mahanadi river. The community is reeling from this devastating news and is praying for the safe return of the missing girl. Let us all hope and pray for her safe return and support her family during this difficult time.
