The November election is just around the corner, and we at The Denver Post are already hard at work preparing our coverage. Our goal is to keep our readers informed about the candidates, the ballot measures, and the major issues that are shaping the races. This year, we have relied heavily on your input to guide our coverage.
Back in the spring, The Denver Post joined forces with several other newsrooms across Colorado to launch the Voter Voices project through the Colorado News Collaborative. One of the key components of this project is a survey that asks voters about the most important issues to them and what they want to see candidates address as they compete for their vote. So far, over 6,100 Coloradans have shared their thoughts, but it's not too late to have your voice heard.
Based on the responses we have received, it is clear that our readers are deeply invested in the topics of democracy and good government. They also want to know how candidates plan to address Colorado's rising cost of living and housing shortage, as well as their ideas for tackling climate change while also preserving the state's natural resources. While there are some differences in priorities among liberal, moderate, and conservative respondents, issues such as immigration and abortion have emerged as key concerns for many voters.
This valuable input has helped shape the questions we have asked candidates in our questionnaires, which cover races from county commissioner to congressional contests. We will be publishing their responses in our online voter guide by mid-October, just as ballots are arriving in mailboxes.
In the coming weeks, The Denver Post and COLab will work together to delve deeper into the issues identified by Voter Voices, providing more in-depth coverage and analysis. We will also draw on the survey responses to gain insight into how voters are thinking about these issues.
If you haven't already, there are two ways you can contribute to this project. You can take the Voter Voices survey, which will help us shape our coverage and hold candidates accountable to voter priorities. Or, you can reach out to us directly with suggestions for stories or topics you would like to see covered by our political journalists. We are always open to hearing from our readers and value your input.
As we move forward with our election coverage, we hope to keep you informed and engaged in the political process. Stay tuned for more updates and sign up for our weekly newsletter, The Spot, to stay up-to-date with Colorado politics. Thank you for being a part of the conversation.
