Tragedy struck on a road in Greece earlier this week when a double-decker tourist bus collided with a car, resulting in the deaths of four people. According to reports, the bus was carrying around 80 passengers, most of whom were Serbian tourists travelling for a holiday to the coastal town of Asprovalta. The four fatalities were all in the car, and believed to be three Greeks and one Russian.
The incident took place near Kilkis in the north of the country, and pictures from the scene depict the bus on its side in a ditch with its windows smashed or removed. Of the 80 passengers on board, 49 were injured and taken to hospitals in Kilkis and Thessaloniki. It is believed that a second car was also involved in the crash.
The incident prompted a response from the local police, who launched an investigation into the collision. Around 20 firefighters attended the incident with six rescue vehicles, while videos of the aftermath show deep floodwater flowing quickly past hotels and homes in the nearby island of Skiathos.
The crash is a reminder of the dangers that come with travelling on public roads, especially during inclement weather. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and those that were injured in the crash.
