Four men have recently been accused of stealing a gun and ammunition from a police vehicle in north Queensland. However, the authorities have not yet been able to recover the firearm.
The incident is said to have taken place in the early hours of Sunday morning at a secure apartment complex on Wills Street in Townsville City. According to reports, the suspects entered the premises in a silver Holden Commodore with stolen license plates.
It is believed that the group broke into five vehicles, including an unmarked police car, before making a quick escape in a stolen black BMW and the earlier mentioned Commodore. It is alleged that they managed to get away with a police-issued firearm and ammunition.
Thankfully, the police were able to make some progress in the case and have arrested at least four individuals in connection to the theft. These arrests were made during raids across Townsville. Among those taken into custody were a 40-year-old man, a 24-year-old man, and a 25-year-old man. They have been charged with various offenses, including stealing, drug possession, and possession of a weapon.
In a separate incident that took place later that same day, an 18-year-old man was also apprehended for his involvement in an armed robbery at a home on Douglas Street. He has been charged with entering a premises with intent to commit a crime, unlawful possession of weapons, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
All four suspects are scheduled to appear in front of Townsville Magistrates Court today. However, the police are still investigating to locate the missing gun and ammunition. If anyone has any information regarding the incident, they are urged to contact the authorities.
