Former Premier League coach survives heart attack while working out.
Iain Dowie, a former Premier League manager, recently opened up about a life-threatening experience he had back in 2010. The 59-year-old, who managed several clubs during his career, including Oldham Athletic, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Queens Park Rangers, and Hull City, revealed that he suffered a major cardiac arrest while attending a spin class.

Dowie, who is also known for his playing days as a striker for West Ham, Southampton, Crystal Palace, QPR, Fulham, and Luton Town, represented Northern Ireland at the international level and earned 59 caps. In an interview with BBC Northern Ireland, he shared the details of his frightening experience.

"I went to a spin class and don't remember too much more," Dowie recalled. "I had a big cardiac arrest, unfortunately. Lots of people looked after me and did some great things in the gym, then the ambulance looked after me and I ended up in the hospital for a good few days."

Fortunately, Dowie has made a full recovery and his heart is in good shape. He even has an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) fitted to keep his heart healthy for the next 20 years. Reflecting on the incident, Dowie remains positive and grateful for his second chance at life.

"I've been brilliant since and the heart is in good shape," he said. "I've got a little thing, an ICD, fitted that I hope will keep me going for another 20 years. It was probably more terrifying for my wife watching, but my view is I'm one of those lads who looks forward and I've been very, very lucky. I was in the right place to have it and perhaps it just wasn't my time."

In more recent news, Luton Town's Tom Lockyer also suffered a cardiac arrest during a Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth earlier this season. The game was abandoned due to the medical emergency, as Lockyer collapsed in an off-the-ball incident in the second half. Like Dowie, Lockyer survived and received an outpouring of love and support from the footballing community.

It's stories like these that remind us of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. We wish both Dowie and Lockyer continued good health and happiness.
