Mohanty's body was then brought to the state Assembly and the BJD party office, where his fellow MLAs and party leaders came to pay their final respects.

In 2009, Mohanty was elected to the state Assembly for the first time on a BJD ticket from the Bhubaneswar Madhya constituency and was later re-elected in 2014. Upon hearing the news of his passing, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his sorrow and prayed for peace for the departed soul. BJD president Naveen Patnaik also shared his condolences, stating that he was deeply saddened by the loss of Mohanty.
