Nykia Wright, a media industry leader and former CEO of the Chicago Sun-Times, has been appointed as the interim CEO of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) beginning Nov. 20. According to TheGrio, the transition comes at a critical time for the organization, which is facing a federal class-action lawsuit for allegedly inflating commissions paid to real estate agents. The jury in Kansas City, Missouri came to a verdict that the NAR must pay out nearly $1.8 billion in damages to the 500,000 plaintiffs of the lawsuit, which was filed in 2019.
Wright has a wealth of experience that will be of great benefit to the NAR. As stated on her LinkedIn profile page, she is an innovative startup leader with expertise in operational turnarounds, organizational redesigns, change and transformation, and process design and improvement for private equity acquisitions. She will be taking over on an interim basis from Bob Goldberg, who has been with the Chicago-based organization for 30 years and is set to retire on Dec. 31. He will be serving as an executive consultant to Wright during the transition.
Wright expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity in a statement, saying, “I am honored to join the organization at this important moment when the opportunity to make a difference in the evolving real estate landscape has never been greater.” With her leadership, the NAR looks forward to a positive and successful future.
