Breaking News: Pohoda Festival Cancelled After Storm Injures Attendees

Slovakia's biggest music festival, Pohoda Festival, has been unexpectedly cut short due to a severe storm that hit the festival grounds. The storm caused a tent to collapse, injuring 12 people. In light of this incident, the festival organisers have announced that the event will no longer continue as planned.

Pohoda Festival, held at Trenčín Airport, was set to showcase an impressive lineup including artists such as James Blake, Skepta, Royal Blood, Pendulum, Noname, Arlo Parks, and Black Pumas. However, the storm had other plans. The performances by Morcheeba and Royal Blood, scheduled for Friday night, were unable to take place as the storm swept through the festival and destroyed the tent they were set to perform in.

According to reports, out of the 30,000 attendees, 12 people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals for minor head and arm injuries. It is estimated that dozens more were inside the tent when it collapsed, eagerly waiting for the music to start. They were warned to stay away from the tent poles due to the approaching storm, and were later informed that the festival was being suspended.

Many festival-goers fled the grounds after the storm, even before an official cancellation announcement was made. However, at 8pm on Friday evening, organisers announced that the festival was being suspended due to the severe weather conditions. Today, a statement was released on their website, officially announcing the cancellation of Pohoda Festival 2024.

"After carefully considering the time constraints and the safety of our guests, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Pohoda 2024," the statement reads.

The festival organisers explained that it would not be possible to inspect all the structures in less than 24 hours, making it impossible to continue with the festival. "The safety of our guests is our top priority, and we hope that everyone will understand our decision, even though it was made with great regret," they added.

Those with tents in the camping area were allowed to stay overnight until noon the next day, while the main venue remained closed. The organisers promised to provide basic supplies of food and drinks for those staying in the camping area. The festival car park and caravan parking were also kept open until 4 PM.

The festival organisers also announced that they had arranged for buses with sufficient capacity to transport anyone who wished to leave the festival grounds. They also sent vans to the tent areas with water and baked goods for the remaining festival-goers.
