In the latest episode of Celebrity MasterChef, viewers were treated to an impressive display of culinary skills by This Morning star Craig Doyle. The 53-year-old TV presenter competed in the quarter-final heat alongside fellow celebrities Ian ‘H’ Watkins from Steps and radio DJ Edith Bowman.
But it was Craig who stole the show with his ‘perfect’ dishes, leaving the judges in awe. In fact, he did so well that some fans even suggested he should have his own cooking segment on This Morning, which regularly features guest chefs such as Gino D’Acampo and Phil Vickery.
Craig’s ambitious menu included black pudding potato croquettes with crispy sage leaves, pan-fried apples, and apple and cinnamon sauce for starters. Despite admitting that he had never been able to cook this dish in under two hours, he managed to do it in just 75 minutes and impressed the judges with his creativity and flavors.
As he plated up his dish, Craig confessed that he was “30 seconds away from disaster” but luckily, everything came together perfectly. The celebrity judges, including previous MasterChef contestants Kitty Scott-Claus and Joe Swash, and 2020 winner Riyadh Khalaf, were blown away by the dish, with Kitty groaning in pleasure and Joe wanting more.
For his main course, Craig served up venison steak with port-poached plums, shredded bacon Brussels sprouts, and a celeriac and blue cheese bake. Once again, he received high praise from the judges, with Kitty declaring it as “perfection” and Riyadh saying he would be “very happy” to be served this in a restaurant.
The pressure was on for Craig, who admitted to being “shaking with adrenaline”, but he managed to impress and secure a spot in the semi-finals. He was later joined by H, who has only been cooking for two weeks but wowed the judges with his perfectly cooked steak and ‘stodgy’ chocolate and marmalade brioche bread and butter pudding.
As the episode came to an end, viewers were left in awe of Craig’s cooking skills and eagerly awaited his next appearance in the competition. Will he go on to win the coveted Celebrity MasterChef title? Tune in to find out on Tuesday at 8pm on BBC One.
