Famous 80s musician would feel ill if he were invited to tour with band once more.
It seems that a Spandau Ballet reunion is not in the cards for the near future. Martin Kemp, one of the band's members, has firmly closed the door on the idea, going as far as to say that he would be "physically sick" if he was asked to go on tour with them again.

‌After reuniting in 2009, the band was hit with the departure of frontman Tony Hadley in 2017. Despite a brief stint with a new singer, they haven't performed since 2019. As they celebrate their 45th anniversary this year, some of the remaining band members have expressed their desire to do one last tour. However, Martin doesn't believe that will ever happen. He shared on the Celebrity Catch Up: Life After That Thing I Did podcast, "For me, it's a closed story." This is a change from his previous statements, where he hinted at a possible reunion.

‌"As much as people would love to see us back together, I don't think it will happen," Martin continued. "The five of us had the most incredible experience. At the age of 18, I was flying around Europe in learjets and partying like you couldn't imagine."

‌For some lucky readers, the chance to experience a similar feeling may be on the horizon. Five Metro readers will have the opportunity to win tickets to Fabuloso In The Park at Brighton Pride on Saturday, 3 August 2024. The all-day event will feature performances from Girls Aloud, Billy Porter, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

To enter, simply fill out the form before midday on 28 July. The competition is open to UK residents over the age of 18, with the exception of Northern Ireland. Full terms and conditions apply.

‌Despite the exciting prospect of touring and performing, Martin is content with his current life and doesn't feel the need to get the band back together. "Being a rock star is a great experience. But do I want to go back there? I think if someone gave me a ticket to go on tour now, I'd be physically sick. So I'm quite happy with what I do now," he shared.

‌Looking back on his time in the band, Martin described it as a "beautiful memory." However, there are times when he doesn't even recognize himself in old photos or performances. "It's like I'm looking at someone else," he admitted. "When I see it on TV or hear it on the radio, it doesn't sound or look like me anymore. It's a young boy that had an incredible experience, and I feel removed from that now. And I think that's the best place for it."

‌Interestingly, Martin is grateful that the band's original split was over money rather than personal issues. "Most bands fall out over girls or money," he explained. "We were the same as everyone else, we fell out over money. I'm glad it wasn't because of personal relationships or our wives. Falling out over money is just business, and that's a part of what we did."
