Explore the abandoned UK theme park that has become a popular destination for urban explorers.
It's hard to believe that it has already been eight years since the closure of Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. A once lively and thrilling theme park, now left in a state of decay. Recently, a series of eerie photos have surfaced, giving us a rare glimpse inside the abandoned park. It's quite sad to see the current state of the place that used to bring joy to families since its opening in 1993. Unfortunately, due to a significant drop in visitor numbers, the decision was made to shut down the park in 2016.

These haunting images, shared on a Facebook group called Pleasure Island Archive, show boarded-up buildings with remnants of rides scattered inside, amidst piles of debris. One particular ride, the Tinkaboo Factory, which took visitors on a tour of a toy factory, still stands almost untouched. However, the moat that used to run through it has been removed. The once bustling fort-like building that housed the dodgems now sits surrounded by overgrown grass and bushes.

It's hard to imagine that just a few years ago, this was a bustling theme park, with its grand entrance and exciting rides. According to the Facebook group, some of the rides have been relocated to other parks. Plans are in place to transform the area into a holiday resort, complete with 272 1950s style lodges, two hotels, a Costa drive-thru, Lidl supermarket, and a retail unit featuring a food hall, leisure unit, and garden centre. One of the hotels is even set to include a casino and conference facility for up to 900 people.

However, not everyone is on board with this development. Natural England has raised concerns about the potential impact on the Humber Estuary Special Protection Area. A survey conducted by OS Ecology as part of the planning application revealed the presence of several bird species on the site. Despite the opposition, plans for the resort continue to move forward.

It's heartbreaking to see the state of Pleasure Island, but it's not the only abandoned seaside theme park in the UK. Over in Morecambe, Lancashire, Frontierland has also been left to rot for the past 25 years. The council has hinted at the possibility of reopening the park, which originally opened in 1906 as West End Amusement Park. It's a reminder that even the most beloved attractions can fall into disrepair, but there is always hope for a revival.
