Experience the charm of two ski towns in summer: Aspen and Snowmass Village.
Are you looking for a summer escape that offers a little something for everyone? Look no further than historic mountain towns of Aspen and Snowmass Village in Colorado, US. Whether you're a skier or not, these two neighbouring areas are a haven for sun-seeking tourists who want a balance of action, adventure and relaxation.

One of the most popular attractions in the area is the Maroon Bells, which can be accessed by free bus rides from the city. Aspen wants to reduce traffic congestion to the area, so they also provide free taxi rides. To really get your heart pumping, try mountain-top yoga at the top of Aspen Mountain for only $20.

If you're looking for something a little less intense, you can wander around the city and take the Dean's downtown walking tour. There are also plenty of quaint restaurants, such as Le Bateau, French Alpine Bistro, and Las Montanas, with classical music playing in the background.

If you need some time to decompress, head to the John Denver Sanctuary, a peaceful oasis with native river boulders engraved with lyrics. There are also free bikes that can be rented for half an hour, with stations dotted around the city.

When it comes to accommodation, there's something for every budget. We stayed at The Little Nell, an upmarket hotel behind Aspen mountain with quick gondola rides to the top. Breakfast was a great kickstart to the day, with huevos rancheros being a particular favourite. The hotel also puts on classic films in its restaurant Ajax Tavern throughout the summer.

Nine miles away is Snowmass Village, one of the best winter ski areas and summer mountain biking destinations. We stayed at the Crestwood Condominiums, a short walk away from Snowmass Mall and gondolas that take you up to Elk Camp. Here, you can take part in activities such as mountain biking, fishing, golf and zip lining, as well as trying the Alpine coasters. There's also white water rafting available, with beginner and advanced levels.

In the evening, you can head to the Snowmass Rodeo for a novel experience - there's even a mutton busting competition for the kids. And, of course, don't forget to try some of the local Mexican food, like Venga Venga and Mawita.

So if you're looking for a summer adventure that offers a little something for everyone, Aspen and Snowmass Village should be top of your list. Just don't forget your cowboy hat! Return flights to Aspen start from £520 on Skyscanner.
