A former contestant of the popular TV show X-Factor, who was accused of taking the life of a baby girl, has had the murder charge against him dropped. Mitchell David Callaway, who is now 39 years old, was taken into custody and charged with domestic violence-related murder back in June of 2023. This came after a thorough five-year investigation by the police.
The tragic incident dates back to July 23, 2018, when a nine-month-old girl was discovered unresponsive in a home located in Binnaway, a small town in central-west NSW. Despite the efforts of paramedics who rushed her to Coonabarabran Hospital, the little one passed away shortly after. Callaway was taken into custody at a residence in Bowraville, a town in the mid north coast hinterland, following a search warrant that was executed in Binnaway the previous month.
However, during the court proceedings that were launched almost a year and a half ago, the prosecutors have now officially withdrawn the charge at Dubbo Local Court. This comes as a relief to Callaway, who had been previously granted bail and did not attend the court in person.
It is worth noting that Callaway rose to fame as a country singer when he participated in the third season of The X-Factor Australia back in 2011, where he finished in seventh place. That season was won by a young and talented artist by the name of Reece Mastin.
