The Directorate General of Shipping has announced their efforts to locate Sarthak Mohapatra, a sailor from the Merchant Navy who went missing on February 3 while at sea. In a statement released on X, the DGS stated that they have launched a multi-agency response in collaboration with both national and international organizations. Their primary focus at the moment is on search and rescue operations, which are currently underway. The DGS reassured that the Government of India is fully dedicated to ensuring the safety, well-being, and rights of Indian seafarers all around the world. They have also activated their crisis response mechanism and have reached out to various authorities, including the Flag State Administration of Singapore, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Mauritius, the vessel's Protection & Indemnity Club, Indian authorities, and the Seafarers' Welfare Fund Society. Moreover, the DGS informed that search and rescue operations are being conducted under the coordination of MRCC Mauritius, with assistance from two to three vessels operating in the surrounding area. This is a coordinated effort to ensure the best possible outcome for Sarthak's safe return. The DGS further added that they are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates as the search and investigation progress.
