ECoR begins project to install safety fencing along Bhubaneswar-Palasa railway section.
The East Coast Railway has taken a significant step towards ensuring the safety of its passengers and increasing the speed of trains. This has been made possible by the initiation of the safety fencing project in the Bhubaneswar-Palasa Railway Section. According to sources from the ECoR, the work has already begun in two small areas near the Bhubaneswar and Palasa Railway Stations. These areas are part of the Khurda Road Division, and the Berhampur-Golanthara Rail Section is also included in this project. So far, a stretch of about 7 kilometers has been fenced off successfully.

The team has installed Double W Metal Beam Crash Barriers on 3.9 kilometers, which is equivalent to 2,400 meters in the Palasa region. In the Berhampur-Golanthara Railway Section, 1,500 meters of these barriers have been set up. Additionally, 1,600 meters of Fixed Knot Fencing Barriers have been installed near Bhubaneswar. This decision was made after careful consideration of the location, as the bank height near Bhubaneswar is almost at rail level, and cattle are often found crossing the tracks.

The safety fencing not only ensures the smooth operation of trains but also prevents unauthorized access, grazing of cattle near the tracks, and the movement of wild animals along the rail line. To make sure that the fencing is effective and does not cause any disruptions, the Ministry has decided to construct boundary walls closer to the tracks. The distance from the tracks will be determined by the zonal railway authorities, taking into account factors such as site conditions, maintenance requirements, multi-tracking works, level of trespassing, and overall effectiveness of the fencing. This project also aims to seal the entry to tracks at level crossings, ROBs, RUBs, bridges, and other critical locations that require access control.

In a recent development, the Ministry of Railways has sanctioned Rs 275.01 crore for the provision of safety fencing along tracks in the Bhadrak-Palasa and Khurda Road-Puri Railway Sections of the Khurda Road Division under East Coast Railway. This further emphasizes the importance of this project and the commitment of the railway authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of their passengers. With the implementation of this project, we can expect a safer and smoother journey for all travelers on this route.
