The Election Commission of India made an announcement on Saturday stating that IPS officer Ashish Singh is in good physical and mental condition. This was based on a report issued by the special medical board of AIIMS Bhubaneswar. In light of this, the ECI has directed that the report of the Special Medical Board should be forwarded to the Chief Secretary of Odisha for appropriate action to be taken against the officer. It should be noted that Singh had been on medical leave since May 4, prompting the poll panel to order a detailed medical examination by a special medical board constituted by the directors of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar. The EC had removed Singh from his post as IG-Central Range Police on April 2, in order to ensure fair and free elections in the state. He was subsequently appointed as IG by the Odisha government.
Prior to the EC's action, the Odisha unit of BJP had filed a complaint against Singh with the Election Commission on April 5, alleging that he was working in favor of the BJD. This development has been reported by PNN & Agencies.
