Driver crashed a stolen car into a pub after a high-speed chase, narrowly missing customers inside.
Jamie Kettle, 37, from Thoresby Close, Harworth, was sentenced to two years in jail on Friday after he was found guilty of a number of offences. This included aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and without insurance, criminal damage to a pub, and two counts of theft from a shop.

The incident took place on March 27 when police received a report of a stolen Land Rover Discovery from a home in Woodthorpe. Officers spotted the vehicle and followed it as it went onto the A57 and reached speeds of 110mph in a 60mph zone. Kettle drove dangerously, including overtaking vehicles at high speed and going through red lights, before he drove into Worksop.

The force of the crash caused the wall of The Lockside pub in Worksop to buckle, narrowly missing stunned punters who were playing pool inside. Kettle then got out of the car and attempted to escape by wading into a canal, but was found by police dogs and arrested.

Kettle also pleaded guilty to two counts of common assault of an emergency worker and one charge of witness intimidation. He aggressively resisted two police officers who were called to a disturbance at an address in Bircotes on September 6 of last year, bending one of the officer’s fingers back and spitting at a second officer. On June 2, 2022, he also threatened to burn down the house of someone in the Retford area.

The smash caused huge structural damage to the pub. Sergeant Clint Gloyn said: "Kettle's dangerous and erratic driving showed utter disregard for the safety of others. He continued to drive at speed in highly populated built-up areas before crashing into the pub. There were numerous people inside the pub at the time and also walking through the town centre. Extensive structural damage was caused to the pub but thankfully no-one was injured."

Kettle was also banned from driving for three years and three months and must take an extended retest. It was made clear that offenders who put other people’s safety at risk in this way will be robustly dealt with.
