Dr. Narayana Swamy can earn more income from scientific farming

Saturday, July 21: Dr. Narayana Swamy, General Manager of Karnataka Agro Chemicals Multiplex Company, said that farmers can earn more income if they farm scientifically.

He was speaking at a training workshop for farmers on coffee, pepper and areca nut farming organized by the Kodagu Unit of the Indian Coffee Climate Change Foundation, Shanivarasante Namma Growers Association and Ganapati Fertilizer at the local RV Kalyan Mantapa.

In recent times, areca nut has become a high-income crop. Farmers are becoming more dependent on this crop. To get a good quality areca nut crop, appropriate farming methods should be adopted. Efforts should be made to preserve the crop of the year by knowing scientifically about the prevention of diseases in areca nuts on time. In coffee crops, buyers are likely to come to the doorstep of the grower for quality coffee. Farmers should get the knowledge of providing the nutrients required for their crops. It is better for farmers to get their soil tested and provide the nutrients needed by the plants. He suggested that farmers can earn good income if they use bio-fertilizers.

Speaking at the inauguration of the program, SSRDP Program Manager B. Girish said that arrangements will be made in the coming days for farmers to sell their grown crops through producer organizations. Incentives are being given to buy agricultural equipment. The benefits of new technology are being delivered to farmers through the project. Farmers should make good use of it, he said.

In the workshop, a demonstration of spraying pesticides in an areca plantation using drone technology was shown to farmers to overcome the shortage of labor.

The program was presided over by Puttaswamy, Secretary of our Growers Association. Product distributors S.A. Aditya, Mysore region manager Dyamanna, leader Kodlipete Bhagawan Gowda and others were present. ICCRL Kodagu District Coordinator Rangegowda conducted the program. More than 250 farmers from villages bordering Shanivarasante, Kodlipete and Hassan participated in the workshop.
